IMG Football Camp Recap

We drove about 24 hours down from Massachusetts to Sarasota, Florida. It was the longest road trip that my family has ever done and it was definitely worth it.  I had about three days to chill and check out some things in Sarasota before I checked in to IMG for camp.  We visited the Mote Aquarium and Sarasota Jungle Gardens which was a lot of fun.  It was kind of cool to feed flamingos, especially since this was the first time I’ve ever seen any.  My uncle who now lives in Sarasota works at the Daiquiri Deck, which is a nice restaurant at St. Armand’s Circle, which kind of reminds me of Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard with all the shops and ice cream spots.

I checked into IMG Academy on Sunday April 17, 2016.  My room was small and I shared it with three other campers, but the campus itself was amazing.  The food in the student hall was awesome too.  I ate sushi in the hall for a late night snack just about every night.  My roommates were all attending a different kind of sports camp.  There were only 4 football players at camp that week and two of them were from Alaska and Canada.  It is amazing how far people come to attend training at IMG and I can now understand why.

My schedule included both defensive line and offensive line technique as well as mental conditioning, vision training, nutrition counseling and some serious weight room training.  This is a non-contact camp. The Florida heat definitely affected me the first day of training, but I felt pretty good after that.  I learned more in this one week about technique and conditioning, than I have at most of my other regional full-contact football camps. Walking the campus you feel like you are at college because of the dorms and because all of the students are from around the country and around the world.  I can’t wait to go back next year.

Next month I am off to FBU (Football University) Camp in Boston.  And then in July I will be back at O-D (Offense-Defense) Camp.  Meanwhile, I am finishing up spring soccer season while still fitting in the weight room with my new high school football teammates.

See you on the defensive line!
